Sister Project in Salem

posted in: News 0

Just completed a sister Tattoo Project commissioned by City of Salem, “Salem’s Connected World“, honoring the cultures that contributed to Salem’s growth as a trade seaport, informed by the collections at the Peabody Essex Museum, with 2 of the original designs made by Native American artists of New England and the Pacific Northwest. The 14 tattoos can be seen this summer only, from Essex Street through Derby Square, around the Old Town Hall, and down through the newly revamped Artists’ Row. They were completed for the Arts Festival June 5-7.

The design outside Old Town Hall facing Derby Square was chosen by collaborating artist Stephen Hamilton– It’s an Adinkra symbol from the peoples of Ghana meaning “Learn from the Past”.
