Double-tailed Siren in Starbucks Fan Pier, BostonCommissioned by Starbucks for their new outlet at Fan Pier, these “tattoos” in cement stain were conceived to add local color and reference the nautical tattoo installations happening across the Harbor at Harbor Arts.

The double-tailed Siren, an archival emblem of the company, was specifically requested by them and also matches the¬†tattoo¬†themes I’ve been working with in Connected By Sea.

The ship symbolizes coffee trade, and is meant to resemble a classic Sailor Jerry tattoo. It’s modeled after a merchant clipper ship of the first half of the 1800s, from engravings in the collection of the Peabody Museum.
