City of Boston just released their 2020 Transformative Public Art grantees, and “Distance Whispering” (see previous posts here) has won a development grant (“Later Projects”), meaning a stipend to further develop the design and build plan and to seek appropriate sites.
Next steps: look at existing other pairs of parabolic reflectors to get ideas about size and placement, and refine ideas about how to build at scale, possibly by building a full-size model with temporary lightweight materials.
9/6/20 The Boston Globe: “‘What is public art even for?’ New works suggest a transformation on culture and shared space.“
“Liz Lamanche’s “Distance Whispering” is an interactive — but no-touch — sculpture that connects people in conversation at a safe distance.”
