THIS just went up at the Kensington Connector (used to be Kensington Underpass of 93) by the Style Cafe! A project of East Somerville Main Streets with funding from Somerville Arts Council, inside the Connector is community art organized by Mark Chase and a huge vinyl mural project by Meagan O’Brien showing faces of East Somerville. A cleanup effort was organized by the stalwart souls of East Somerville Main Streets- this whole project dresses up the pedestrian walkway connecting East Somerville to Assembly Row, and makes it more inviting.
Bike tour scheduled for 11am Sunday, see East Somerville Main Streets for details!
Bonus, this is the underpass where my graffiti lemur lives… after 4 years the city finally painted over its tail! Time to fix.
The Gateway is part of a larger vision I’m proposing that would include colorful treatments on the inside columns and beams, and the west entrance to the connector to make the space even more friendly and inviting to pedestrians from both sides.
