I recently has the pleasure of working with the excellent folks at Dave’s Fresh Pasta on their new venture, SEMOLINA Kitchen & Bar, in Medford. Modeled after Dave’s and soon to feature both dining, bar and a small market, this one-stop-foodie-stop is fancy-casual, but meant to recall the old-style mom-and-pop Italian markets and eateries of Brooklyn.
For their logo we searched archival photos of those market signs, usually handpainted, often in block caps. I chose a couple as jumping off points and created a SEMOLINA logotype. Next step was to apply it in 2-foot tall letters on the top of their building! A fun day was had on the scissor lift, making it just so. I love how it came out! Soon to be a neighborhood classic, I hope.
I love this ampersand!!

So, head to Boston Ave in Medford in the morning for coffee and pastry, or check out their restaurant and bar, or get some fancy groceries to take away. Their cocktail ingredients section is particularly tempting.
