Patriot Ledger: “Public art installation nearing completion in Hull.”
The new Hull Art Walk will line a rebuilt long-abandoned pedestrian walkway near Nantasket Beach, near the historic Paragon Boardwalk. Several artists are contributing murals to give the walkway a variety of looks, with an “art garden” with benches near the end. The project was funded by the state and public donations and has broad support locally.
My piece is about the long tradition of lifesaving in Hull- since sailing ship days there were dedicated crews saving mariners from shipwrecks off Hull, before even the Coast Guard was founded here. The lifesavers motto found during my research into this tradition is even more timely today: “Whoever you see in distress, recognize in them a fellow human being.” A Sailor Jerry tattoo visual language “anchors” it in the popular maritime tradition and should please holidaymakers along the beach.
