In the quest for self-knowledge, perspective is everything.
“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
This piece started life as a giant canvas displayed at Burning Man 2018 with color-changing RGB lighting. It was displayed in the public lounge space of Automatic Subconscious, on the Esplanade. The video below shows it in action during the Decompression event in Providence this November.
Since then I’ve been playing with the image and turning it into a digital work- a detail view as an archival print was shown at the Arisia art show this January (New England’s largest speculative fiction convention).
The Lounge at Automatic Subconscious at 8:30 and Esplanade, Burning Man 2018.
The image at right is a piece I created from a detail of the original canvas, adding color and effects to hint at the color-changing sensations brought on by the original, and to make it a new composition in its own right. This appeared in the Arisia 2019 art show, as a matted archival print at 6″ x 9″.
…The next project in this journey has been adding an augmented reality layer to the entire scene, to replicate the color-changing experience.
